Video can be used creatively to raise awareness about the issue and seek to address preventative measures making audiences aware that their rubbish is their responsibility and they have a duty of care to dispose of it responsibly. The short video aims to raise awareness of the consequences of fly tipping, the costs involved and ways of preventing it happening.
Young people work with Real Time to explore why graffiti occurs and raise awareness amongst their peers of the effect it can have on the local community. The project is a research tool created by the young people in which they interviewed other young people, those in the community affected by graffiti and people with an interest in reducing its effects.
These two projects enable participants to actively explore reasons behind anti-social behaviour and the outcomes associated with it. Interviews with groups affected and those involved in managing the problem form a major part of both projects. This enables a powerful prevention message, speaking directly to other young people and giving older people an insight into peer pressure and other factors, which can have adverse effects.
For the first time, Wokingham Borough Council’s Environmental Services combined forces with the Arts and Youth Teams at WBC to recruit young people, develop ideas, fund and create the DVDs.
