Real Time is one of the UK’s most well-established organisations using participatory media and digital art in community settings.
We make video and digital media accessible. Participants access a means to examine the world around them, raise awareness and develop self confidence. This approach is educational in the widest sense stimulating thought, expression and interaction – and particularly appropriate when engaging hard-to-reach groups. Projects can take place anywhere, in the most fitting location for the particular group, individual or project.
Real Time’s approach means anyone can take part. We encourage participants to represent their ideas by working creatively together to make innovative and original short films. We fundamentally believe that hands-on use of the equipment leads to a thoroughly creative and fulfilling experience.
Each project is designed to best fit the needs of the group and client.
This approach is applied to all projects whether a single taster session or a complex multi-agency project. Real Time projects often involve many other art forms such as music, drama and dance, which are delivered following the principles of inclusion and participation.
Real Time was founded in 1984 by Jackie Shaw and Clive Robertson who are co-authors of 'Participatory Video', the definitive text on this subject, published by Routledge.
